Elma Kever Black, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away at home on April 3rd surrounded by her family. Born near Heber Springs, Arkansas, Elma worked to pay her way through high school and college. In 1952, she married her college sweetheart, William Philippi Black. She was an amazing home economist, and always put her family's care as her highest priority. As a parenting and drug abuse specialist, she helped found and shape the I Care Program of Baton Rouge. Elma enjoyed working for the EBRP school system and served her community by volunteering for the American Cancer Society, Junior League, and University Presbyterian Church. At home, Elma could readily be found in her garden where she enjoyed walking family and friends to the newest bloom. She also served as a "special care unit", taking in plants that needed her special touch and attention. She is survived by her husband, William P. Black, and their children, Ann Posey, William Jr. "Bucky" and Maggie Black, Ginger and Chris Musso. She is also survived by grandchildren Kelli & Adam Jennings, Shelley Posey, Rachel & Tyler Loupe, Megan Musso, William III & Stephanie Black, Raymond Black, and one great-grandchild, Tristan Lee. She is also survived by her siblings, Veldon & Donna Kever, Wanda Sparr, and Loys Rafferty. She is preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Bell Kever, and brother Jesse Colin Kever. A memorial service will be held for Elma at 11 am on Thursday, April 6th, at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
