IN MEMORY OF MRS. W. T. CARTER
On the morning of October 9th, 1923 at about 2 o’clock the death angel visited the home of W.T. Carter, and claimed for its own the loving wife and mother. She was sick several days and her death had been expected for some time, but still it was a great shock to her many friends. Lula was a good woman and died proclaiming the love of her blessed Master. She said she was ready and willing to die, and was going to rest. Just before the end came she sang Amazing Grace and Just in the Gloryland. Then she asked all present to pray with her for she was too weak to pray by herself. Oh, how she prayed. She said there is nothing between her and God and how could we doubt it for we have known her everyday life for a number of years and always found her to be just as good, pure, gentle and sweet as could be. She was never too tired or the night too dark or the storm too great to keep her from visiting the sick. So many times have we seen her where duty called her without a word of complaint. The cheer up loved ones. Lula is only waiting basking in the beautiful sunshine of Heaven, so let’s try to meet her there.
She joined the M.E. Church early in life and was a devoted member until death called her. She was buried the following day at Keyton Cemetery, Rev. McNeal of Enterprise officiating.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ethridge of near Enterprise, Ala., was born in Barbour County near Louisville, Ala., May 15th, 1883. About 25 year ago, she was marred to W.T. Carter. To them were born fifteen children, three of whom proceeded her to the grave. She leaves a father, mother, four brothers, eight sisters, husband and twelve children and a host of soring friends to morn her untimely death. Now are we all going to imitate that pure sweet life of hers, so we may be able to sing songs of praise and know there is nothing between us and our God.
We can hear Lula’s footsteps as she walks the streets of gold in the city of wealth untold, where all hears are united and the days never grow old.
Written by one who loved her.
