I am writing my own obituary with it's traditional brief biographical sketch.
I elect to do so in order to set forth that which I consider to be the most meaningful happenings of my life for which I wish to be remembered.

First, I want to make known that I was born in Freeland on October 23,1916.
From that time, my long life gave origin to many eventful situations and warming interludes.
Sadly, with the passage of time, the exciting situations have become severely blurred and the warming interludes are rapidly fading away.

However, providentially, I am left with a vivid recollection of some noteworthy events of my life. The most paramount of these remembrances I wish to recite.

On April 15,1941, I joined the regular Army of the United States as a private. I rose through the enlisted ranks and was a commissioned as a second lieutenant on Oct. 16,1942.
Immediately after that, on Dec. 26,1942,I was blessed with the most significant and eventful happening of my life, My marriage to the Irish lass, Mildred Rose O'Donnell from Drifton. Millie, as she was affectionately known, accompanied me throughout my military and civilian course of life.

On the day I was commissioned, I was given command of an Army Detachment of 60 soldiers. Later, I was given command of an Army company of 99 men and 3 officers, which was earmarked for the impending participation of the invasion of France.
We went on to serve in England, Belgium, Holland and France, including 25 days in the combat zone in the Ardennes region around Bastogne.

When the war ended, I was assigned to Headquarters Tactical Command-Langley Field, Va.Two years later, after the completion of that tour, I was assigned to Headquarters Alaskan Air Command.
Upon completion of these four years of Headquarters staff duties, I was assigned to the At Force staff in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., serving there for a period of four years.
On 15 April 1955, I reported for duty with Headquarters Southern Command, NATO, Naples, Italy.

Of course, throughout all these assignments and moves, Millie was at my side. For the three years with NATO, we traveled most of Europe and parts of Asia and Africa.

When we returned to the United States, I was given command within the Strategic Air Command, and assigned to Peru, Ind. Later we went on to Dallas, Texas, where I took on the duty of deputy regional director of the Southwestern Command, Military Traffic Management Agency.
Four years later, we went on to Dover, Del., where I assumed duty as the air traffic coordinating officer, ATCO, one of the six in the United States.
A year later, I elected to retire from my 22 year military service with the rank of Colonel.

Millie and I returned to our home of record, Freeland. Millie resumed her teaching career and I became a free and special agent in association with several different business enterprises.

In the year,2003, at the age of 87, Millie went ahead of me to establish our final residence in heaven, leaving me here to complete our remaining tasks. In due time, I will join her.
There may have been voids along the way with our lives, but by the grace of God, we were given an everlasting and awe inspiring life, one He blessed and directed.

Finally, with sorrow, I leave no bloodline survivors.
After my passage, the D'Amore bloodline comes to an end.
I do leave a half-brother, Alexander Mazziotta, Allentown; and a half-sister, Anna Rossi, West Hazleton. Also I leave my surrogate, Paul John Warner, Silver Spring, Md., whom I treated and held as my own son from the time he was 1 year old.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. with the celebration of Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Ann's Church, Freeland.
Burial will follow in ST. ANN'S CHURCH, Freeland.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday at the church from 8:45a.m. until the time of service at 9:30a.m.
McHugh-Wilczek Funeral Home, 249 Centre St., Freeland, is in charge of arrangements.
