Lyle died on Christmas Day afer a short illness. Lyle was he son of Marlow Hyrum and Oraette Curtis Dearden. He graduated from East High School where he excelled in Football,Tennis,Basketball and Track. His acedemic career was inturrupted by serving in World War II. He served as a Pilot in the Navy Air Corps in Utiliy Squadron 10 in the South Pacific. Before shipping overseas he married Marjorie Monson on May 2, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Following the war he continued his education and earned his Bachelor's,Master's and Doctorate Degrees at the University Of Utah. He was a gifted teacher who taught at many universities,Including the University Of Massachusetts,The University Of Souhern California and The University Of California-Irvine,from which he recieved the Golden Apple Award. He begrudgingly retired in 1987,but continued to lecture at St George's University in Grenada.
He and Marjorie had three children together.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Larkin Moruary at 260 East South Temple Street
at 12:00 PM with a viewing from 10:45 AM-11:45AM prior to the services. Internment followed at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
Marjorie died on September 24, 2006.
