Silver Star Medal
Distinguished Flying Cross
CDR Mark Eslick was a Naval Aviator attached to the USS Intrepid. He was lost off Formosa on 12 OCT 1944. He had graduated from the US Naval Academy, in 1935, where he sang with the Choir and Glee club. I said that his plane was lost off Formosa. Afterwards, I decided to look that up and found that it had been a name used by the Portuguese, to describe the island now known as Taiwan Info provided by Noelani
His wife, Jane MCreavy McElroy were married in 1937 in Pensacola, Escambia Co., Florida. After his death she married Cpt., later Rear Admirael Rhodam McElroy. He was also a WWII Pilot who received the Navy Cross for action in 1942 on the USS Sangamore. She had two children by Adm. McElroy. Both Mark Eslick and Adm. McElroy were 35 graduates of Annapolis. They also lived the last years of their lives here in Western North Carolina. They were both cremated and I have yet to discover their final resting place. One observation. He would not be buried in Manila, the Philippines. His correct designation would be "Lost at sea" with the memorial in Manila a cenotaph.
