He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1954 and Central Missouri State University in 1958. He worked for the Social Security Administration for 30 years. He was president of the KC Area Credit Union and Union Steward for the American Federation of Government Employees. He married Charlotte Pauline (Penny) Cain in 1959 and raised two children.
Ken was an avid reader with interests in history, politics, science, pop culture, trivia, and sports. He loved travel, especially camping. He was a longtime supporter of public television, a Webelos leader and an active volunteer for Girl Scouts.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Penny, children, Julie Carriker and William (Rusty) Carriker, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, one sister, one brother, a large extended family; and many, many friends.
Always thinking of others, Ken willed his body to KU Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 8, at Fairmount Community Center, 217 S. Cedar Ave., Independence.
