Obituary for Mrs. Alice L. Thixton Galbraith
Alice L. Thixton Galbraith, age 91, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour, Indiana.
Alice was born in Beech Grove, Indiana on August 28, 1925, the first born of five children to George and Addie Michener Peachee.
Alice was a graduate of Shawswick High School in Bedford, Indiana class of 1944. She married Raymond E. Thixton on November 17, 1944 and he preceded her in death in February 1968. She then married Frances "Bud" Omer Galbraith on May 25, 1985 and he preceded her in death in March 1988.
Alice worked in the photography business for over 30 years. She first worked for the deMercado Photography Studio located on California Street in Columbus, Indiana. The studio was moved to the corner of 17th Street and National Road and was later purchased by Bud Galbraith. When the Commons, in Columbus, Indiana, first opened she, along with Bud Galbraith, opened Galbraith Photo Center, which was on the corner of 4th and Washington Street. After marrying, they moved to Florida. Alice lived a total of 19 years in Lake Worth before moving back to Seymour, Indiana in 2005.
Alice loved the photo business and loved working outdoors where she enjoyed planting and working with flowers. She was well known to have a green thumb. She loved to fish and one summer took a fishing trip to Alaska. She loved to travel and made trips to Japan, Israel and took a long trip out West.
She is survived by her children, Vic (Cindy) Thixton of Seymour, Phillip M. Thixton of Seymour and Rodger Thixton of Jacksonville, NC; two Step Sons; Gregg (Theresa) Galbraith of Goodlettsville, Tennessee and Terry Galbraith of Columbus, Indiana; two sisters: Julietta Weddell of Pineville, Kentucky; and Marilyn Mumford of Columbus, Indiana: one brother George L. (Shirley) Peachee, Jr of Salvisa, Kentucky; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by three half brothers: Leon Peachee, Roland Peachee and Homer Peachee; and one sister Hazel Willcutt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Seymour with Pastor Jeffrey Stuckwisch officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to time service Friday at the church. A luncheon will be provided immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
Internment will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
