John C. Fust was born April 3, 1866 in Bureau county, Ill., the eldest son of August Fust, and his wife Dora, nee Wangerin. In 1875 the family came to Iowa and settled in Adair county where John attended the district schools. On April 24, 1881 he was confirmed and received as a communicant of the Fontanelle Lutheran church by Pastor Niemeyer. In 1892 he was married to Nettie Armfield and they became the parents of six children, four sons and two daughters. The family moved to Hewitt, Minn., where they lived many years. On Oct. 9 of this year Mr. Fust returned for a visit with relatives and friends staying with his brother Louis Fust, near Creston, but the enjoyment of his visit was not long. Two weeks ago he was afflicted with a serious illness and was taken to the Greater Community hospital in Creston where an operation was performed from which he did not recover, but passed away Sunday Nov. 6. Mr. Fust is survived by his wife, six children and seven grandchildren, also his brothers William and Henry Fust, his sister, Mrs. Mary Kramer, and August Fust, Mrs. Emmy Petersen, the latter of Denver, Col., and Louis Fust of Creston. His age was 66 years, 6 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Ewing funeral parlor in Fontanelle, conducted by Rev. W.H. Kurtz. Interment was in the Fontanelle cemetery.
