Albrecht, Robert D.

Robert D. Albrecht, age 79, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his current residence on Park Way in Madison. He considered his home to be at 916 Farwell Drive in Maple Bluff where he lived for over 33 years until health necessitated moving to a smaller residence. After retirement, during the winter, he enjoyed his condo in Queens Grant on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Bob was born at 710 South 15th Street in Manitowoc on July 30, 1937 to Arnold H. and Elizabeth M. "Bette" (Drumm) Albrecht. He attended Garfield and Jefferson Elementary, Washington Junior High School, and graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1955. He began his college curriculum at UW Manitowoc Extension and graduated from the UW Madison with a BS degree in Psychology. In 1964 after being offered a scholarship, he moved to Indianapolis where he enrolled in and completed a MSW specializing in mental health. During that time, he had a red Corvette that he drove when traveling between the University and trips home to Manitowoc. (That car was never forgotten, but an identical one was never found as he often shopped for one in later years.) The scholarship required him to pay back the State of Wisconsin after completing his degree. Therefore, he returned to Wisconsin to work for the State and pay back the scholarship. Initially he worked in local Wisconsin County Departments of Social Services and at Winnebago State Hospital. He held a variety of positions in the Department of Health and Social Services working with local county human service agencies. Bob retired as the regional director for the Department of Health and Social Services for Southwestern Wisconsin.

Bob always appreciated nice things and took great interest in his several hobbies. He had a lifelong interest in a variety of events and items and was an avid reader. His library was extensive including books and materials on archaeology, history, religion, the environment, coins, stamps, science, technology, nature and hunting and more. Hunting with cousin Dick and friends was one of life's highlights for him. During winters in Hilton Head Bob enjoyed the Heritage Library where he could pursue his genealogy searches. Bob researched his Albrecht family back into the 17th Century but did not get as far with the Drumm family. Bob's collection of postcards is in the thousands and the majority of them are of Manitowoc and the surrounding area. He collected all things German, a heritage he was proud of and constantly learning about.

Bob had season tickets to and followed the Green Bay Packers football team. He enjoyed showing people the autographed 1942 Packer team photo he had found and telling people about "Uncle Art" who played for the Packers in those early years. Additionally, Bob followed and had season tickets to the Wisconsin Badgers.

Bob is survived by his partner: Barbara Born, Madison; cousins, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Arnold and Elizabeth "Bette" Albrecht.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State Street, Manitowoc. Rev.
