Allen Tracy Bird was born at Madison, Wisconsin, April 13, 1849. He was the son of Augustus Rhenodyne Bird (1824-1877) and Elizabeth A. Tracy (1825-??). He was a resident at Rockford, Illinois, when he enlisted for four months as a private May 27, 1864. He was mustered into Company E, 141st Illinois Infantry, at Elgin, Illinois, June 16, 1864. Private Bird was mustered out with his regiment at Chicago, Illinois, October 17, 1864. He was a resident at San Jose, California, when he married (1) Laura Idah Meacham at Lassen Meadows Ranch, Humboldt County, Nevada, April 7, 1875. They were soon divorced. He married (2) Mary L. Jones (1854-1915) at Irvington, Alameda County, California, on January 31, 1877. They were divorced by early 1886. He married (3) Calla N. Watkins (1863, IL-1949, CA) in California August 2, 1886. Allen filed for a Civil War veteran's pension and received certificate No. 1,013,460. He was a member of Tucson, Arizona's Negley Post, No. 1, Grand Army of the Republic, in 1886. Allen was a resident at Nogales, Arizona, when he was admitted to the Pacific Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, at Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California, on May 23, 1929. Allen died at the soldiers' home late the following year.
