MANSFIELD - Francis J. Alberto, 80, of Mansfield died on Saturday Jan. 6, 2007 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of Barbara C. (Inman) Alberto, to whom he was wed to Oct. 19, 1957.

Born in Milford on May 19, 1926, he was the son of the late Luigi and Theresa (Bottone) Alberto.

He grew up in Milford and was a 1944 graduate of Milford High School. He went on to become a 1948 graduate of Brown University. Upon graduation from college he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served aboard the U.S.S. Philippine and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.


Mr. Alberto was a retired Mechanical Engineer, having worked for the Foxboro Co. for 35 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of both the Foxboro Co. 10 year and 25 year clubs and was also a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Mansfield. An avid golfer Mr. Alberto was a charter member of the Foxboro Country Club and was a playing member of the Sharon Country Club. He also enjoyed opera, reading and was a New England sports enthusiast. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 49 years and was formerly of Milford.

In addition to his beloved wife of over 43 years, he is survived by his devoted daughter, Susan R. Alberto of Revere, and his loving grandchildren Nicole Alberto, Rebekah Alberto and Joshua Anderson, all of Revere. He was the father of the late Virginia A. Alberto and Judith Alberto. He was the brother of the late Angelina Penler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited, will be celebrated on Wednesday Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Private burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mansfield.

Visiting hours have been omitted. Those wishing may remember Francis with a donation in his memory to the charity of one's choice.
