Sonny passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the age of 90 years. He was born on June 2, 1926 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma to Floyd Van and Anna Lee Taylor Benge.

He lived and worked his entire life in the Fort Gibson area, except for the time he drove a truck for Lee Way in Oklahoma City. After he retired from trucking, he was the caretaker of the Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson for 10 years, a job he truly enjoyed. He also served his country in WW II, spending time in Europe, Germany and Japan.

On April 8, 1950, he married the love of his life Helen Schmidt. They shared almost 60 years together, before her death on December 9, 2009.

He is survived by his two sons; daughter-in-law; two grandsons and their wives; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister; and brother.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elnora Worley and Mae Bradley and brother Thomas Benge.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 17, in the Lescher Milsap Chapel in Fort Gibson, Ok with family visitation on Sunday April 16, 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
