Janine Ella Ackerman, age 35, of Coconut Grove, FL, died suddenly on April 8th, 2017, at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL.

Janine was born on March 1, 1982 in Mount Holly, NJ, and was the daughter of John and Janice Ackerman of Monroeville, NJ. She was the granddaughter of John and Katherine Ackerman of Vincentown, NJ.

She is survived by her fiance, Kareem Zarwi of Coconut Grove, FL. Her brother, John III and his fiancee, Angela Lucik, brother, Jake, and sister, Jenna, all reside in Monroeville, NJ. Her grandmother, Ella Watson Walton of Medford, NJ, predeceased her.

Janine graduated from Woodland Country Day School in 1996, and from Woodstown High School in 2000, where she excelled in field hockey. Throughout her high school field hockey career, Janine was All South Jersey offensive team, Tri-County Conference All Star, All South Jersey, All State, as well as Woodstown Wolverine of the Month and a member of the Homecoming Court. She attended Michigan State University on a field hockey scholarship and graduated from the Eli Broad School of Hospitality Business in 2005, majoring in Hospitality Management. During her time at Michigan State, she participated in the Disney College Intern program in Florida and the Study Abroad program in Rome, Italy. She received her Master's degree in 2008 from Florida International University's Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, where she also was President of the Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Management Honor Society. At FIU, she was selected as the Student FIU Leader at the South Beach Food and Wine Festival.

Janine's professional career in hospitality began in 2005 in Washington, DC, where she worked as Front Desk Manager at The Hotel George. She then continued as the Director of VIP Services & Assistant Director of Rooms at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. She concluded her career as General Manager at the Equinox gym in Merrick Park, Coral Gables, FL, where she tragically was killed.

From a young age, Janine lived the Ackerman Family values of hard work, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Janine was also the leader of Ackerman leisure They shared family vacations in the Florida Keys and Colorado, and spent summer weekends in Ocean City, NJ. They ordered Swizzles by the pitcher at the Swizzle Inn in Bermuda for many years. These trips won't be the same without Janine.

Janine resided in Coconut Grove for the last 10 years of her life where she met her fiance, Kareem Zarwi. The couple could be found walking in vineyards in Napa, riding their cruisers around the Grove, paddle boarding around Dinner Key, enjoying the mangroves off the coast of Puerto Rico, spending time with their beloved cat, Cali, or wrapping up an evening with a bottle of wine at The River Oyster Bar.

She had a beautiful smile that would permeate those in her company, a sense of humor that was both crude and charming. She was a vibrant, intelligent, determined young woman with an enthusiastic personality. As a professional, she was a hard worker, leader, mentor, and role model for others. Janine created a legacy that will not be forgotten by those whose lives she touched.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Adams Funeral Home, 64 Broad St., Woodstown, NJ 08098. The visitation will begin at 9 AM with the service following at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Friendship Cemetery in Monroeville.
