Amelia Zimmerman was born March 30, 1929, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, to Pharis and Elizabeth Zeznick Zimmerman. They were members of the Mennonite community. Amelia was the oldest of 10 brothers and sisters: Enda, Sevilla, Harvey, Luke, Allen, Anna, Ruth, Ivan, and Alvin, 2 of which have preceded her in death.
In her young adulthood, she chose to follow her heart and scripture and left the Mennonites. She married Robert Eugene Eckhardt who she met while serving at the Pilgrim Tract Society. She faithfully followed her husband, as he evangelized in the streets and even the Capitol in Washington, D.C. They eventually settled in Columbia, South Carolina, and had one son, Robert Eckhardt, who was delivered in the comfort of their own home, by her husband. She independently homeschooled Robert.
"Amy" always had a heart for the poor, and spent thousands of hours, up to the last few months of her life, crocheting caps, socks, and slippers for these less fortunate. She always had a love for her savior, Jesus Christ, and had a very deep understanding of the scriptures, which she enthusiastically shared with any who would listen. One special quality was evident to her last moments~Amy had a grateful heart for all the goodness God had poured on her, even though she lived a simple life.
After her husband, "Bob", passed away she was lovingly cared for by her son, and later her sister Anna, with whom she shared a birthday, until her death on March 26, 2017, in Kenton, Ohio.
