His Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines, with burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Merle Hay Funeral Home.
George Joseph Adler, the son of George H. and Katherine (Ryan) Adler, was born March 23, 1945 in Chicago, IL. He was a graduate of Quigley Preparatory Seminary and Roosevelt College.
George was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam.
He retired from West Bank after a career in banking.
George enjoyed collecting stamps and trains, traveling, and photography. He was a member of the American Philatelic Society, Lincoln Highway Association, and the VFW in the communities he lived in. George had volunteered at the Des Moines VA Hospital.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Terry Adelman.
George is lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy of Des Moines; sister, Christel Adler-Adelman of St. Louis; nephews, John and Dan Adelman; stepdaughters: Debbie Laity, Jill (Jay) Boomershine, Jennifer Rockhill, and Beth (Larry) Rockhill-Loose; and seven grandchildren: Michael, Max, Sierra, Katie, Jordan, Thomas, and Brady.
Memorial contributions may be given to the VA Central Iowa Health Care System.
