My great-grandmother married John Edward Poorman in 1881.They had a total of 8 children. They had a general merchandise business in Wallace Run now known as Runville. The store was relocated a few times. In 1923 she was appointed Post Mistress at the store/post office in Wingate.She continued to operate the store and post office until her retirement in 1940. She was widowed in 1910 and in 1914 married James Calvin Witmer, who left her widowed a second time. During the prohibition era she was a staunch prohibitionist. She was also county director of the W.C.T.U medal contest. At the time of her death
she had 5 remaining children, 43 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Evangelical Church at Wingate Pa.
