Billy Dan Akins, 75, of Lee Co., GA, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Willson Hospice House.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Thundering Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Arthur Lee Johnson and Rev. Rufus Williams will officiate.

Bill Akins was born to James and Lucy Akins on March 28, 1938 in Redbone. He attended the Lee County School System and after he finished school he worked in construction all his life.

He married Betty Jean Ross on September 10, 1956 and they were never apart since that date.

He was Baptist by faith and a member of Thundering Springs Baptist Church. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1285 for over fifty years. He was a loving and dedicated son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and a friend to all. He was known to many as Uncle Bill. If he wasn't working, he was doing what he loved best, fishing. He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered.

He was preceded in death by his father, James William Akins, mother, Lucy Hartley Akins, Brothers, John Akins, Jimmy Akins, a sister Nina Akins, sister-in-law, Penny Akins and a nephew, Luke Akins.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Akins, sons, William (Danny) Akins, Martin Akins (Jackie), daughters, Deanna O'Neal (Ricky) and Cecilia Akins all of Leesburg, GA, brothers, Ronnie Akins (Debbie), Kenny Akins (Cathy), sisters, Dina Ton (Chuck), Ruby Strickland (Curtis) of Leesburg, GA, Emily Drawdy of Albany, GA and Mamie Webb of Pelham, GA, grandchildren, Tessa Harnage (Billy), Leesburg, GA, Melissa Oliver (Kevin), Conyers, Alicia Price (Wade), Leesburg, GA, Tish Wiggins (Nick), Albany, GA, Jonathon Akins, Alex Akins (Kristi), Tiffany Werner (Stewart), Cade O'Neal all of Leesburg, GA, sixteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, a very special sister-in-law, Cheryl Lamkin (Joe) and special friend Arthur Lee (Charlie) Johnson.
