Ellen R. Platten, age 60, 102 Douglas Court, St. Nazianz, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. Ellen was born Nov. 10, 1948, in Fond du Lac, daughter of John Karls and the late Betty (Steinmetz) Karls. She was a graduate of Stockbridge High School with the Class of 1967. On July 4, 1970, she married Mike Platten at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stockbridge. Ellen started her career as a cook for five years at JFK Prep. She then was employed by St. Mary's Home as a cook for nine years. After leaving there she worked for Calumet County Homestead as a dietary aide for two years. Ellen was a very active member at St. Gregory Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Mike Platten, St. Nazianz; one son and daughter-in-law: Nick and Tara Platten, Kiel; one daughter and son-in-law: Carrie and Kurt Bratz, Collins; three grandchildren: Emma Platten, Ethan and Shaun Bratz; father: John Karls, Stockbridge; one sister and brother-in-law: Kris and Glenroy Danes, New Holstein; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Richard and Joan Karls, Schofield; Denis Karls, Stockbridge; Brian and Debbie Karls, Stockbridge; one sister-in-law: Patty (Jack) Janssen, Sheboygan; one brother-in-law: Peter (Diane) Platten, Oshkosh. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Anselm and Olivia Platten. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Michael Bigley Burial will be at St. Gregory Church Cemetery The family will greet relatives and friends Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at St. Gregory Catholic Church from 2 until the time of service at 6 p.m. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her friends for the care and love shown toward Ellen and her family. Ellen loved everybody especially her husband, children and grandchildren.
