Mother was the light of our life. Her light has gone out, down here on earth now, but we hope to see her in a bright place called Heaven, where Jesus Christ our Lord will be the light forever more.
Annie was born on April 2, 1926 to Ervin Jackson and Lelia Boyles Collins in Pinnacle, NC. She was the matriarch of the Ashburn family. Annie loved the Lord and loved everyone. She loved to tell about how the Lord had brought her through the tough times in her life, she loved to talk about her childhood days and her family.
Annie loved to read her Bible, quilting, planting flowers and gardening. Mother taught herself to play guitar at the age of 13, and had a beautiful singing voice. Mother joined Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church on May 28, 1953. She later moved her membership to Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church, when Dad was called to help serve the church there. She was precious to us and her memory will live on in our hearts. We will miss her and all the love she gave us so freely.
In addition to her parents, Annie was preceded in death by her husband: Elder Jeannie Ashburn, two daughters: Wanda Lee Ashburn and Rebecca Ann Joyce, one son: Donald Jean Ashburn, brother and sister-in-law: James & Minnie Collins, sister and brother-in-law: Rachel & Redgie Mabe.
Annie is survived by her two daughters: Dottie Stephens (Dottie), Darlene Southern (Ronnie), two sons: David Ashburn, Dwight Ashburn (Delores), ten grandchildren: Emily Blankenship (Kevin), Dianne Martin, Rodney Stephens (Brandi), Scott Southern (Lisa), Brent Southern, Miranda Ashburn, Lisa McKnight (David), D.W. Collins and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a 2:00 pm funeral service Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Burroughs Chapel with Elder Rodney Marshall, Pastor Herb Mabe and Pastor Johnny Lord officiating. Burial will follow at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
