HUGHEY, Athel Verdell - Of Flint, age 80, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Hurley Medical Center, Flint. Athel was born February 28, 1926 in Waverly, Tennessee, son of Roy and Hettie (Knight) Hughey. He was a W.W. II Army veteran who served at the Battle-of-the-Bulge and retired from Fisher Body #1 in 1987 following 40 years of service. Athel was a member of the Grand Blanc Church of Christ, U.A.W. Local #581, and a life member of D.A.V. Chapter 3. He is survived by: wife of sixty years, Betty Sue (Arnold); children, Hal "Dick" (Mitzi) Hughey of Flint, Vickie (Ron) Rigdon of Durand, Robert "Darrell" (Shirley) Hughey of Swartz Creek, Dawn Elizabeth Hughey of Flint, William "Slayde" Hughey of Flint; daughter-in-law, Rachell Hughey of Swartz Creek; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Farris (Sonny) Maynor, Dimple (Leslie) Clifton, Shirley (Sonny) Rector, Madge Smith, and Glema Walker, all of Tennessee; and a brother, Roy (Sylvia) Hughey of Flint.
