Opera Singer. A mezzo soprano, she was born Rose Francoise Marie Garcin and studied voice in Paris, France under baritone opera singer Jean-Vital Jammes (stage name 'Ismael') who would later be her husband. In 1880 she appeared at the Opera de Marseille, Marseille, France, in Ferdinand Herold's "Zampa" and three years later she starred in Daniel Auber's "Fra Diavolo." After marrying Jean-Vital Jammes in 1885, she was contracted by the Opera de Marseille as a premier performer and appeared in a number of operas during the 1886/1887 season, including the role of 'Catherine Glover' in Georges Bizet's "La jolie fille de Perth" and 'Ophélie' in Ambroise Thomas's "Hamlet." In 1888 she started performing at the Theatre Graslin in Nantes, France and found success as 'Dinorah' in Giacomo Meyerbeer's "Le pardon de Ploërmel." However, the following year her voice began to decline, forcing her to retire from the stage. She continued to remain active in Marseille's musical scene and died in her home there at the age of 88.
