Carl Birger Ackerman, Jr., 97, of Windsor, beloved husband of Ruth A. (Hinkleman) Ackerman passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 22, 1919 in Hartford, son of the late Carl Birger Ackerman, Sr. and Anna (Burgenholtz) Ackerman, he lived in Hartford, Columbus, OH, Newington, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Altoona, Pennsylvania, before moving to Windsor 42 years ago.
Carl had been employed by Veeder Root for 32 years before retiring. He was a member of the Civitan Club in Newington and Windsor, the Windsor Garden Club. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, bridge, traveling, and he was a real handyman. Carl was proud to have built his first home with his father in Newington.
Beside his wife Ruth, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Ackerman of Silver Spring, MD; two grandchildren, Jose Borrero and his wife, Holly Thorpe, Melissa Brandrup and her husband, Peter; two great grandchildren, Carlos Tui Edward Borrero and Bella Ana Joyce Borrero; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Carla Jean Ackerman Borrero; two sisters, Ruth Meier and Ann Marie Martin.
His family will receive friends Friday, April 21, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will be Saturday, April 22, 2017, 1:30 PM in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave., West Hartford. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 465 Park Ave., Windsor followed by military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 465 Park Ave., Windsor, CT 06095.
