J.A.C. Baker, 83, of 414 Williamson, died early Sunday morning in a local hospital. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy. He moved to Corpus Christi in 1928, where he operated a pharmacy through the early Thirties. Later, he became a prominent realtor and appraiser, serving two terms as President of the Real Estate Board and helped to organize "Multiple Listing". He was the first appraiser for the Veteran's Administration in South Texas. He appraised for Lake Corpus Christi and the International Airport.

Mr. Baker was active in Civic Affairs having been an organizer of the local Y.M.C.A. for which he served as the first board chairman. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Director's of Community Chest, and served two years on the Housing Standards Commission. He was past President of the Downtown Kiwanis and past Lt. Govn. of Kiwanis International District #4. He worked with the local Camp Fire Girls organization many years. He was also active in the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Moore, whom he married June 1, 1925; one son, Kenneth Baker [James Kenneth Baker], one daughter, Mrs. Ross L. Allee, Jr. [Sandra Jane Baker Allee], and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at Seaside Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Vernon Elmore and Rev. Maurice Spaulding officiating. The family requests their friends to make memorial contributions to South Texas Children's Home. Cage-Mills Downtown Chapel.
