Floyd Edward Braun, 88, lifelong resident of Athens, died peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2017.He was born February 16, 1929, the second of five children born to Edward and Celia (Weix) Braun. He attended St. Anthony Catholic School and Athens High School followed by collegiate education at St. John's University, Minnesota. It was from these experiences that Floyd's deep faith was firmly formed and became a template for a life well lived.On April 24, 1954, he married Sophie Hart. They made their home in Athens where Floyd and his brother, David, owned and operated the former Braun Sales and Service Ford dealership. Floyd was passionate about many things including the way he served his community. He acted as a Volunteer Firefighter in Athens for 43 years, was an active member of the Athens Village Board in various positions for 16 years, and also dedicated his time as a member of the Athens Cemetery Association.Floyd was also an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, part of many hunting and fishing crews which included his nephews and cousins of the extended Braun family. He particularly enjoyed goose and pheasant hunting. After retirement from his business he and Sophie traveled the country in their RV and spent several winters in Arizona and Texas.Survivors include his loving wife of almost 63 years, Sophie; his daughter Anne Marie (Patrick Hernandez) Braun of Wauwatosa; four siblings, David Braun of Stevens Point, Roger (Mary) Braun of Milwaukee, Margaret (Roger) King of Green Bay and Paul (Janet) Braun of Janesville; brothers and sisters-in-law Mildred Hart of Athens, Leona Hart of Wittenberg, Ray (Kathy) Hart of Ames, Iowa and Rose (Jerry) Edwards of Green Valley, Arizona. Additionally Floyd is survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward John; brother, Father Michael Braun; sisters-in-law Leona Braun, Sister Mary Bertilia Hart, Anne Kwiecinski, Agnes Hoth, Frances Albrecht, Adeline Hart, and Pat Hart; brothers-in-law Joe Hart, John Hart, Matt Kwiecinski, Doug Albaugh, George Hoth, Adrian Albrecht, Ed Hart, and Greg Hart.Visitation will be on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Athens from 10 am til Noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon, presided by Father George Graham. Lunch to follow Mass. Concluding this celebration of Floyd's life will be final interment at the Edward and Celia Braun family plot at Calvary Cemetery in Athens. "For you are dust, and to dust you shall return".
