JOHN CARTER, SR of Orlando, FL died at home. He was a retired, 28 year, U.S. Marine Corps 3 was veteran, an avid car collector, a car dealer and a racing fan, a 32 degree Mason (Scottish & York Rites) and a member of the Bahia Shrine. Preceded in death by daughter, Cynthia Rounds, brothers, Joseph and Michael; sister, Millicent, surviving are son, John, Jr; grandchildren, Amanda, Nicole and Amber and a brother, James. Graveside services will be held June 10, 2017. Published in the Orlando Sentinel April 21, 2017.Carter, Sr, John , age 91, passed away January 31, 2017 at home in Orlando. He was born June 3, 1925 in South Pekin, Illinois, to Serbian immigrant parents. Theodore and Mary Cvitichanin and spent his childhood there. In the late 1930's his family moved to Bellwood, Illinois to work near the Proviso Rail-yards. He entered the Marine Corps on January 6, 1943, and served until June 30, 1971 when he received a medical discharge. While in the Marines, he changed his birth name to Carter. He moved to Orlando in the late 60's, and remained there for the rest of his life. He was an avid car collector, a car dealer, and a racing fan. For him, a perfect day consisted of time spent with friends at various local Orlando car and body shops. He was a Three War Veteran, (Pacific campaign, Korea, and Viet Nam), a 32 degree Mason (Scottish & York rites), and a member of the Bahia Shrine. He is preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Rounds, brothers Joe and Mike, sister Millicent. He is survived by his son, John Jr, granddaughters: Amanda, Nicole, and Amber, and a brother James. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 10:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery; 400 Woodlawn cemetery Rd in Gotha, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to US Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation 909 N Washington St Suite 400 Alexandria, Virginia.
