Dorn Odell Spangler, 84, of Route 2, Meadows of Dan, died Friday morning, March 22, 1996, at R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on January 17, 1912, to the late Frank Spangler and the late Lottie Spangler. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spangler was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Spangler. Mr. Spangler retired after serving as the Superintendent of Schools for Patrick County from 1963 through 1977. He was a member of Mayberry Presbyterian Church, former member of Stuart Rotary Club, a former coach and teacher , and the former Director of Instruction for the Patrick County School System. Mr. Spangler is survived by his wife, Gaynelle Reynolds Spangler of the home; two daughters, Phyllis Spangler Bryant and Sylvia Spangler Hawkins, both of Chatham; two sons, Larry Spangler of Stuart, and Terry Spangler of Richmond; two sisters, Jeanette Shelor of Meadows of Dan, and Myrtle Yeatts of Martinsville; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Spangler and Allison Spangler. Funeral services for Mr. Spangler will be held at the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Sunday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Clarence Marshall and the Rev. Jack Holland officiating. Burial will follow in the Spangler Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
