Obituary from flammfh.com:
Marla Ann Holyoak Ricks, 65, of Rexburg passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 23, 2017. She fought a valiant battle with Multiple Sclerosis which was diagnosed in 1968. She overcame many odds, living with this disease for nearly fifty years. She will be remembered for her happy, positive disposition; her smile, her love of life, and her love for her many friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all who know her.
Marla was born on May 25, 1951, in Rupert, Idaho to George Albert Holyoak and Laurece Davis Larsen , and attended school in Burley. She made friends easily, many of whom she kept in contact with and associated with until her death. She loved her friends, and enjoyed regular visits and telephone calls with them.
In high school, she was student body secretary, and also participated in drama and Bel Cantos. She represented Burley High School at Girls' State and was selected to go to Girls' Nation, where she was elected Vice President. It was the first time and also the last time that both the president and vice president were from the same state. She loved politics and was very engaged in local issues as well as national issues. She was proud of and loved the United States flag, and stuck up for our freedoms every chance she got. She never backed down from defending her country, and all the freedoms we enjoy.
She married Cecil Ricks on June 3, 1970, in the Logan LDS Temple. This began a happy marriage and two sons were born to them. Jared was born in Hailey, Idaho and Nathan was born in Rexburg just short of three years later. These boys brought her much happiness and joy. Marla and Cecil lived in Provo, Utah; Las Vegas, Nevada; Blackfoot, Idaho; Hailey, Idaho; and Rexburg for the last 38 years.
Marla was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. She loved the sisters in her ward and they loved her. She taught many people the meaning of LOVE.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil of Rexburg; sons, Jared (Michelle) Ricks of Shelley and Nathan (Carrie) Ricks of Pocatello; and eleven grandchildren, Mariya, Hailey, Benson, Thomas, Andrew, Lola, Seth, Franklin, James, Emma and Anderson. She is also survived by a sister Janet (Hal) Stock of Orem, Utah; a brother, David (Kathryn) Holyoak of Naperville, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at the Plano LDS Chapel, 5973 North 5000 West, in Rexburg, with Bishop Burt Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
