Stu is survived by his wife of 52 years, Celine (Mizeur) Bentley, son, Brian Bentley and daughter, Melissa (Rob) Price, both of Springfield, brother, Robert (Linda) Bentley of Springfield, and his beloved grandson, Paul Price.
Stu graduated from Lanphier High School and Southern Illinois University- Carbondale with a degree in Accounting. He was a CPA and worked for the State of Illinois in that capacity for many years. He also worked for the State Board of Education until his retirement in 2003.
Stu loved all sports and especially loved playing softball with his Mizeur family brothers-in-law. He also enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandson, Paul. Everyone knew of Stu's great passion for chili, any chili, as long as it turned crackers orange upon impact. Sundays were spent with a bowl of chili and the Chicago Bears.
Stu had been a coach for St. Joseph's School CYO basketball program for many years and he was a "Red Coat" volunteer at MMC Baylis Building for the past 11 years. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Agnes Church. A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Illinois CPA Society and SIU Alumni Association.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with a prayer service at 4 pm.
Mass of the Resurrection: 10 am, Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. Joseph Church with Reverend Steve Janoski officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
