He was a member of the Paterson Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors for over 20 years, having served as President and Chairman of the Board. In 1995, he was awarded the Frank J. Candari Memorial Award; in 2002 he received the Boys & Girls Club of America National Silver Medallion.
Mr. Farnon’s career in banking extended over 40 years. He retired from Valley National Bank in 2002 as a First Senior Vice President. He was past a member of the NJ Bankers Assoc., where he served as Chairman of the Consumer Credit Committee. He was also a member of the Eastern States Monetary Assoc. and served as Chairman. He was a long time member of the Charter Club of Paterson and had served as President and Chairman. Mr. Farnon was a past member of Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, NJ and the PGA Country Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. He was also an active volunteer at the PGA Historical Museum in Port St. Lucie, FL.
Mr. Farnon was predeceased by his parents, 4 brothers, 4 sisters and one daughter, Suzanne Farnon Walker. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Sharon (Nee Stevenson) and three daughters; Catherine Mendel, Donna Gedra (Stephen) and Kristin Szieber (Joseph) and 10 grandchildren.
Arrangements have been made through Moores Funeral Home in Wayne, NJ, a date will be decided in the near future. The family will receive guest between the hours of 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
