MRS. WILLIAM ADAIR

The many friends of Mrs. William Adair will regret to learn of her death, which occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. A. F. Kennedy, Palmerston Road, on Saturday night. The deceased was born in Dunluce, Ireland, and came to New Zealand with Mr and Mrs. T. J. Dickson, who were well known in Gisborne, in 1863. She arrived in Auckland, where she remained for eleven years, marrying the late Mr. William Adair in 1860. In 1874 she came to Gisborne, where she had resided ever since, except for some years when she visited England. At the time of her arrival in this district, the town was practically in its infancy, and she had watched its growth during the past 48 years with no small amount of interest. For many years her husband, who predeceased her 13 years ago, was in business in Gladstone road as a general merchant, and the deceased took an active part in the business. Some years ago she went on a visit to those of her children who are in England, and returned to Gisborne about three years ago, since when she has been in failing health. Among the older residents of the town she was well known and universally loved and respected, her many kindly actions and unceasing generosity winning for her many friends. For many years she was associated with the Presbyterian Church, for which she was always an active Worker.
The deceased is survived by three daughters and five sons:
Mrs. Rosina Adair Kennedy (1870-) of Gisborne
Mr William Henry Adair (1871-)
Miss Adeline Adair (1872-)
George Edward Read Adair (1877-)of London
Miss Madeline Adair (1876-) of London
Miss Winifred Anne Adair (1880-) of London
Herbert Adair (1882-) of London
Ernest Adair (1884-) of Gisborne
Percy Adair of London (1888-)
Albert William Adair (1877) of London
The funeral will take place at the Makaraka Cemetery this afternoon.
