Captain of Company A of the 1st/2nd Maryland Battalion, which served under General Steuart. He died leading a charge up Culp's Hill at about 11 in the morning on the third day at Gettysburg. There is a monument to the regiment at Culp's Hill, and a monument to him was erected at Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore.
