Lois was born November 20, 1931, in Nashville, to the late, Henry and Fairbee (Henderson) Dowell. She married Paul X. Ackerman Sr. on January 26, 1952 in South Carolina. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1975.
Lois attended Helmsburg School and went on to work and retire from Eli Lilly & Company in Indianapolis where she was a Group Leader for several years. Lois was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was happiest when surrounded by her family. She enjoyed working in her yard, mowing, working crossword puzzles, watching Dr. Phil & game shows. Lois was a NASCAR fan, always backing driver Kevin Harvick. She enjoyed vacationing in Florida, where she watched the sunsets and took walks on the beach.
Lois will be missed by her daughter: Debra (Mike) Fishel of Martinsville; siblings Betty Fleetwood of Morgantown, Doris (Harold) Cox & Sara (Larry) Johnston, both of Morgantown & Linda (Lew) Worcel of Greenwood; grandchildren Rob Paris & Julie (Tom Hall) Jessee of Martinsville, Marcia (Pete) Kalat of California, Paula (Andy) Zurbuch of Unionville, Paul (Payton) Ackerman III & Ashley Chandler, both of Bloomington and Carie (Cory) Kelsheimer of Terre Haute and great grandchildren Sheldon & Alexis Paris, Taylor & Kaylie Jessee, Logan Darland, Marley Kalat, Blaine, Bryce & Drew Zurbach, John & Samantha Ackerman, Jude & Charlie Chandler, Ariana, Caylee & Kennedy Kelsheimer.
She was preceded in death by her son, Paul X. Ackerman Jr. and siblings, Lilly, Robert & Lee Dowell.
The Rev. Rick Miller will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
