A Descendant of the Kartchner/Wilcox family of Philadelphia

Part of Peter W and Amanda Cobb Ketchner/Kartchner line.

A 1919 article in a Washington DC newspaper noted that she was working in the Medical and Hospital Division of the office of the Director of Purchases in the War Department.

She married twice, first to Eugene A. Madgin [1902-1966] in 1919, he was serving in the Marines and stationed in Washington DC.

Washington Post, October 7, 1919, Page 16 - reported that "Eugene Adams Madgin, 22 and Helena E Tipton, 21, Burlington Iowa" had applied for a marriage license.

She and Madgin was also found on the 1920 census in Washington DC, he was listed as working for the government and Helena was listed with the initial of "E".

Washington Post, December 1920, noted the birth of a child for Eugene and Helena Madgin.

Articles in the 1923 edition of the Washington Post did note the divorce. Other articles suggested that Madgin attempted to gain custody.

No record of a divorce, but Madgin did remarry in 1928.

No record of her second marriage to Frank Mathew Gorey, but he was serving in the USN as a machinist for the dirigible service.

Sometime in the mid 1920's, it appears that they moved to California, in the greater Long Beach area of Los Angeles County. They were found listed in several city directories, where he was listed as working for various government agencies.
