Heiress, Socialite, daughter of the late Count and Countess Laszlo Széchenyi and a descendant of the Vanderbilt family,Her mother, the former Gladys Vanderbilt; was one of six children of Cornelius Vanderbilt and the former Alice Gwynne and a great granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, who built a fortune in railroading, in the 19th century. She died in 1965. Her father, the Hungarian Minister in Washington from 1921 to 1939, who had served also at the Court of St. James's from 1933 to 1935, died in 1938. Countess Hadik was born in Hungary and lived there, in Washington and in Newport, R. I. where her mother had inherited The Breakers, the mansion built by her grandfather in 1895. She studied at schools in this country and at St. Wills Convent in Ascot, England. She was married to the count in 1931 and lived in Hungary until 1946. In country she lived in Cheater, N. H., where she was instrumental the founding of White Pities College. Her husband died in 1971. A son, Laszló, died in a plane crash last summer.
