Union Civil War Officer. Born in Wyoming, Ohio, he volunteered to serve in the Union Army when he was 19 years old and enlisted with the 11th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was transferred to the 75th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was mustered in as a 2nd Lieutenant on November 5, 1861. On September 12, 1862, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and to Captain on December 3, 1862. He became a Major on June 11, 1863 and acted as the regiments commander after Cololnel Charles W. Friend resigned. He was captured by the Confederates at the Battle of Gainesville in Florida on August 17, 1864 and held as a prisoner of war for seven months until March 18, 1865. After the war, he returned to Ohio and lived in Lockland. He later returned to reside in Wyoming, Ohio. In 1892, he was elected to the Ohio General Assembly. He died at his residence in 1924 when he was 81 years old.
