A. E. Hallaren, 34, Hurtles Four Stories
Brother sees victim fall to his death:
LOWELL - Arthur E. Hallaren, 34, of 58 Second avenue, an Army veteran, fell four stories down an elevator shaft to his death shortly after 12:30 this noon in the old Sterling mills at 576 Lawrence street.
The accident was witnessed by James Hallaren, a younger brother, who was working on staging with him at the time of the accident.
According to the reports of Police Ambulance Drivers James W. Murphy and Claude McElroy who rushed to the scene, the young man was on a staging repairing the elevator when the staging gave way and he fell four stories to his death.
He was rushed to St. John's hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The victim was an Army infantry veteran. He spent two years in service, most of which was spent in the European theatre.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Hallaren of 49 Second avenue; three sisters, Lieut. Col. Mary Hallaren, assistant director of the Women's Army corps, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Andrew Scanlon, Lowell; Mrs. Victor Gelineau, Boston; two brothers, James of Lowell and John of Virginia. He leaves his wife, the former Mary Sullivan, and a one-year-old daughter.
