*His name is spelled Peregrine G. Stout on several of his children's death certificates.

PERRY GREEN STOUT (HEZEKIAH-1) was born in 1834 in Lewis Co, WV.41
He appeared in the census between 1860 and 1880 in Gilmer County, West Virginia.
He died between 1894 and 1897 at the age of 60.
PERRY served in the military in Civil War - Confederate. On the 1860 Gilmer Co census his occupation was given as farmer and it says he was born in Lewis County.
Also living with them on the 1880 census was Michael H. (w), 54, boarder; and Luther Frey, 25, boarder. Wife's name was spelled Zury with a question mark.
The Stout History has his wives listed as: Amelia R., Runy Stout and Mary E.; and children as Mary, Amanda, George, Samuel J. Lewis Co marriages has Perry G. Stout, 41, b Gilmer living in Gilmer m Zury Romine, 42, b Harrison living in Harrison on 6-25-1876 ??
No other marriage record in Gilmer or Braxton Cos. Gilmer Co Deaths 1852-1880, Wes cochran: Geo Stout d 2-3-1869, age 1y 4m 4d, parents: Perry G and Mary E Stout.

Perry was six feet tall with blue eyes and light-colored hair.(3) In 1859, not long after his father Hezekiah Stout died, Perry's mother, stepmother, Mary (Henley) Stout, deeded land to him.(4) At that time, as reflected in the 1860 federal census, Perry was a farmer, with real property worth $700 and personal property worth $300. He was married to Amelia (age 25), and had three young children: Lucy J. Stout (age 3), William S. Stout (age 1) and Sylvester S. Stout (age 2/12).

Perry Stout served as a second lieutenant in the Confederate army both in the 26th Virginia Calvary, company B and in the 4th Virginia Battery Calvary, Company B. The Military service records of Perry G. Stout from the National Archives (3 pages).
Records show Perry was a second lieutenant of Company B of the 46th Virginia Calvary Battery on December 3, 1863 and requested pay of $90.00 for December 3, 1863 to January 3, 1864 and received pay from Captain F.G. Roche (Rocke?). The records also he was included on a List of "Confederate deserters and prisoners of war confined in Post guard home. Report dated Clarksburg, West Va., Apr. 14, 1865" stated he was "Released Apr 14th on taking amnesty oath." His younger brother, Samuel Smith Stout, also served in the Confederate army, in Company D of the 21st Virginia Infantry.

When Perry died, before 31 May 1897, he still held land in Stouts Mills, including coal deeds.(6) Following his death, there was apparently litigation over the ownership of his land and the mineral and coal rights between his heirs and T. Marcellus Marshall (See Gilmer co., WV Deed Book 59, p. 242, deed for 17.65 acres at Stouts Mill in 1907 in settlement of dispute.)

He married AMELIA SMITH, daughter of MICHAEL SMITH and Rosina C. MOYNER, was born in 1835 in Baltimore Co, Maryland.5 Several sources have his first wife as Permelia or Amelia and that she died before 1876. The name Amelia R. is given on the census sheet. See page 246 of the new Gilmer Co book and page 239 of the new Braxton Co book, she may be Amenia Smith d/o Michael Smith. Which is probably right because her birth place was given as Baltimore on the census and Michael Smith lived in Baltimore. I wrote Lavonne Minigh, but she had no other information. Her middle name is sometimes given as E and sometimes as R. I am listing her as the daughter of Michael Smith pending further information. The 1850 Braxton co census lists her as Permelia.

PERRY GREEN STOUT and AMELIA SMITH had the following children:
98 i. Lucy J. STOUT was born on 9 Nov 1857 in Gilmer County, West Virginia.5,42 Patt Seitas gives 9 Nov 1855 as her birth date and that she married a Mr. Martin. Gilmer Co marriages have Lucy J.
