Harold Wright Westbrook passed away May 4, 2017, at the age of 96. He folded his tent, shouldered his pack and marched on to join his beloved wife in a better place. He had been a resident of the Winchester area since 1989 and lived his final years at Southern Manor. He was born April 17, 1921 in Chickamauga, Georgia. A graduate of Gordon Lee High School, he is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Pearl Whitaker Westbrook; parents, Flora Hixon Westbrook and Edmond Crawford Westbrook; sister, Evelyn Westbrook Lee; brother, Edmond Hixon Westbrook; granddaughter, Buffy Brown Patterson. Harold fought as an infantryman with the “Hell on Wheels” Second Armored Division during WWII in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery under fire. Mr. Westbrook is survived by his daughter, Susan (Burt) Westbrook Brown; sons, William (Sharon) F. Westbrook and Thomas H. (Henry) Westbrook; 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home on Saturday May 6, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Steve Angus and Rev. J. D.
