He married Dorothy P. Pfister June 21, 1945. Mrs. Ashwood passed away November 24, 2009 following 64 years of marriage.
Following an honorable discharge, he returned to the area where he was employed as a postal worker by the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, driving, and reading.
He was survived by his children, Richard P. Ashwood and Penelope A. (Thomas F.) Strickland; and six grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Dorothy, He was predeceased by his wife; a grandson, Thomas D. Strickland; and 2 brothers, Howard & Gordon.
