He was born April 29, 1940 in Roberts, Idaho, to Hugo Nicolus and Florence Marie Stienke Hochwart.
Larry attended school in Roberts, Idaho for 12 years. After graduating from high school in 1958, he attended Idaho State University in Pocatello for two years. Larry then got a job at the INL, where he worked as a health physicist for 32 years. During this time, he also owned and operated a farm in Roberts.
He married Sandra Hubbard on April 6, 1985 in Carson City, NV.
Larry retired in 2000, and he and his wife, Sandy, spent their winters in Yuma, AZ. After selling the farm in 2013, Larry and Sandy lived in Star, ID for four years. They moved to Saint Anthony in the fall of 2016.
Larry loved to catch and eat fish, camp, and play cards. He enjoyed being around family and friends, and was lovingly referred to as "Hokey".
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hochwart, of Saint Anthony; children, Misty (Rick) Berrett, of Saint Anthony, Jim Ellis, of Pocatello, and Mike (Chris) Ellis, of Skagway, AK; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Michael Hochwart and Dennis Hochwart.
A graveside memorial service is being planned for early in June and will be announced when arrangements are finalized.
