Page 132 - Mary Ann Means, born 5 Feb 1827, Toby Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Died 28 Sept 1866, Crow Wing County, Minnesota.

Mary Ann never married, however, she and her two younger sisters lived near Curllsville with their parents and raised their sister, Nancy Jane's young son Harry Clay Craig. It has been said that their sister was very ill and to help her they took care of young Harry and became so devoted to him that they prevailed upon his parents to leave him with them when they moved to Iowa.

Emily Means swore Mary died 28 Sept 1886 testate in Crow Wing County and that she was at the time of her death a resident and left estate therein.

MEANS - In this city Tuesday morning, Sept. 21, 1886, Miss Mary A. Means, aged 60 years. Miss Means has been a resident of this city for some five years and during the past two years she has suffered from a cancer. She was a christian lady, highly esteemed, and was a friend to every body. Miss Means was an aunt to the Cragg [Craig] brothers of this city and had kept house for them on 9th street north for some time. The funeral services were held Thursday morning, Rev. Reed officiating.

RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT
Brainerd, Minn., Sept. 28, 1886

Resolutions of respect and condolence by the Ladies and Society of the 1st Congregational church of Brainerd.

WHEREAS, God in His providence has removed from our circle, one of our most active members, whose exemplary Christian character, and worthy daily life and example endeared her to all, our beloved sister Miss Mary A. Means, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we extend to the bereaved family and friends our heartfelt sympathy in their afflictions. And, realizing how unsatisfying is all human sympathy in times of great sorrow, we point them to Him, who will comfort them as earthly friend can.

RESOLVED, that in the death of our dear sister, the society recognizes the loss of one of its most faithfu and efficient members.

RESOLVED, That these resolutions be entered upon the records of the society, and that a copy be sent to the family of our deceased sister; also that the same be published in all the city papers. By order of the committee.
