Charlotte Ruth Popp was born June 27, 1924 in Lorraine, Kansas to Christian and Minnie Schepmann. She was the youngest of seven children. Charlotte attended first through eighth grades at St. Peter Lutheran School in Holyrood, Kansas. She highly valued and deeply treasured her Lutheran parochial school education. Charlotte graduated from Holyrood High School in 1942. Following high school, she attended Wichita Business College in Wichita, Kansas.
A few years later, Charlotte met her future husband, Richard Popp, on a blind date. They were married at the height of World War II on August 12, 1945 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Holyrood, Kansas. The Lord blessed their union with three children: Richelle, Royce and Chris.
Charlotte knew her primary call was to be a loving wife to Richard and a devoted mother to her three children. She worked both full and part time throughout the years at various companies, usually doing bookkeeping and administrative assistant work. Charlotte has resided in Midland since 1979 where she was employed for a number of years as a pharmacy tech at Walgreens.
Throughout her life Charlotte loved attending church, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, various Bible studies, and was an ardent supporter and member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary. She found great joy in sharing God’s Word with others. Her strong faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was apparent in all her conversations in every area of her life.
Charlotte’s eyes were filled with kindness and love for others. She gave great hugs, had special appreciation of the gift of time, valued her relationships, was a great friend, and loved her family deeply. Charlotte is and will continue to be deeply missed. Her sweet smile would light up any room.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Minnie Schepmann; brothers, William Schepmann, Edgar Schepmann and Amos Schepmann; sisters, Bertha Westphal, Lena Christopher, and Ruth Huddleston; son, Royce Pope; grandson, Logan Pope; great-grandson, Ivan Gengler; Great-grandson, Jacoby Pope; and great-granddaughter, Cora Pope.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard Popp; daughter, Richelle Gengler and husband Scott; daughter-in-law, Jane Pope-Meehan; son, Chris Pope and wife Mary; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are her grandchildren, Shawn Gengler, Barry Gengler, Jeremy Gengler, Evan Pope, Anne Mead, Addison Pope, Ashley Pope, Lauren Pope, Kristin Gengler, Jordan Gengler, Landon Pope, Brenna Pope, and Brooklyn Pope.

In the sure and certain hope of the resurrection, she will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at a later time.
The family would like to express special gratitude to Dr. Viktor Miro who so wisely, kindly and diligently cared for Charlotte during the past six months during her frequent hospital stays.
