After high school, she attended William Woods University, but did not finish her degree. She returned to higher education many years later (early 1980's) as a non-traditional student to finish her Bachelor's degree at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.
November 17, 1962, she married James E. Darnell, whom she had met in high school. The pair enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time at the family's place at Lake of the Ozarks. A bit over three years later, Jim passed away from cancer and she became a single mother at a young age.
After Jim's death, Deanna worked as a teacher's aid and a teacher in the Cook school district outside of Lebanon. Later, she became the head teacher at the Lebanon Pre-School.
In 1970, she met and married Bill Wheeler and spent many enjoyable years with him.
Deanna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and crafts. She enjoyed participating in ceramics with her mother, Bernice Elmore. They spent hours working on their latest creations.
Deanna served as a Cub Scout Den Mother during the early 70's. She was a certified Open Water Scuba diver. She especially enjoyed her "girls" trips to Branson and greatly looked forward to them.
From a very young age, Deanna enjoyed books and reading. This love grew into support for the Kinderhook (and later to become the Laclede County/Lebanon) public library. She supported the library with her time, talents and resources.
Deanna is missed by her family and friends.
