Wilson Absher was the son of John & Sarah Robinson Absher. Wilson married Susanette Alvis 27 December 1859 in Hawkins County, TN

Wilson served in Co. I, 3rd Tennessee Cavalry - Union Army
He was captured at Vicksburg, MS July 4, 1863 and was imprisoned at the Confederate Cahaba Prison near Cahawba, AL there he remained until he was released as a Union prisoner of war and placed on the Sultana to return home to his wife & children.
The Sultana was a Mississippi River side-wheel steamboat. On April 27, 1865 the Sultana exploded in the worst maritime disaster in U. S. history exceeding that of the Titanic.
