Steiner Olga (nee Benois), formerly of the Firs, Hatherop and recently rwsident at 49 Eastleach, Gloucestershire, was born in St Petersburg, Russia, and died at the age of 91 on the 26th August, 1973. A daughter of Louis Benois (who was Court Architet to the Tsar and Director of the Academy of Arts), during the first World War she nursed in a field-hospital and, after the Revolution, went to Berlin where she passed a medical examination in radiology and analyses and became assistenat to a Doctor. She arrived in England in 1946, when she wwas 65, and quickl adapted herself to her new surroundings, making many new friends and keeping in touch with a number of her old ones as she was a great correspondent. Remarkably vigorous and lucid until almost the very last, she possessed an astonishing memory and left behind a lot of artistic patchwork, the hobby of her later years. Her hands were rarely idle. Her sister, Nadia Benois Ustinov, will miss her vital personality as indeed her nephew Peter Ustinov to whom she was very devoted.
