Eaglin, Simon 10/29/1917 - 5/7/2017 Ann Arbor Simon P. Eaglin was born October 29, 1917. He was one of eight children, (five boys and three girls), of which there are three still living. He was educated in parochial schools in Opelousas, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, he traveled to Guthrie, OK, where he attended college for one year. There he met his wife Marguerite Davis, and they were married in 1940. They moved to Ann Arbor, MI in September, 1941, where they lived until 1943 when they moved to Ypsilanti. During World War II, Simon worked at Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti. He remained at the plant until the end of the war. After the war years, he worked for Kaiser Frazier, also located at Willow Run, until 1954. He became employed as a technician in radiation control at the University of Michigan in 1954. While working there, he completed his degree at Eastern Michigan University. In 1964, he became Postmaster of the Ypsilanti post office and remained there until his retirement in 1988. Simon and his wife, Marguerite, had three children, two sons and a daughter; Fulton (Jan), Patrick (deceased) and Valerie. They have five grandchildren. He and his wife resided together in the City of Ypsilanti until her death, December 20, 2004. He has been involved in many volunteer activities, some of which are: Member of Kiwanis Club of Downtown Ann Arbor, Kiwanis Bowling Team, Member of several Committees with Kiwanis, Motor Meals of Ann Arbor, Usher at St. John's Catholic Church, Housing Bureau for Seniors, Mentor to teens at Slauson Middle School, Friends of the Library (Ypsilanti), Gold Coats of Beyer Memorial Hospital, Gold Coats of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. In addition, he had a long standing participation in local and State politics, the State of Michigan Constitution Committee, the NAACP, the present site selection for Washtenaw Community College, along with many local boards and service organizations. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017, 4:00-8:00 pm at the Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48108. Funeral Mass will follow Wednesday, May 17, 2017, 11:00 am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic church, 411 Florence Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 with interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery.
