Hollis Juliann Simms, 86, formerly of Chetopa, died at 6:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the home of her daughter where she was currently residing.

Hollis was born January 16, 1921 in Welch, Oklahoma to Lawrence M. Caldwell, Sr. and Lottie R. (Webb) Caldwell. She attended vocational school during the war where she learned to be a seamstress. She was employed by the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons and later by Ace Electric in Kansas City, Missouri.

Former wife of Edward "Eddie" Claude Whitmire (They divorced and he died Nov. 26, 1995), Speedy Jones (Who preceded her in death), Lanell Redmond (They divorced). In 1960, she and Ted Simms were married in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death.

She loved to sing and enjoyed fishing. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chetopa, Kansas where she was an active member of the church choir.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, six sisters, one son, Lawrence Jackson Jr. (Died in infancy); and one daughter, Norma Jean (Whitmire) Meredith (Died Sept. 1984)

Daughter of the late Lawrence Caldwell Sr. & Lottie (Webb) Caldwell.
Sister of Mamie Goodwin (Deceased), Florence Smith (Deceased), Emma Scott (Deceased), Jesmon Burnett (Deceased), Christine Parks (Deceased - Twin of Christilene), Christilene "Tinsy" Jackson (Deceased), Harold Caldwell (Deceased), Lawrence Caldwell Jr. (Deceased), Mont Caldwell (Deceased), & Theodore "Ted" Caldwell (Deceased).

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chetopa. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS 67336.
