The son of Frederick and Gena (Hoven) Scherf, Leslie Scherf married Virginia R. Prince on 29 February 1944 in California. She was the daughter of Verner Ernest Prince (1894-1973) and Lula M. Shamblin (1899-1982). Together they moved to Arizona about 1945. He was a carpenter by trade.
