BAGAN, Wesley A., of Bon Air, died Monday, March 3, 2008. Born July 24, 1920 in Elizabeth, Pa., he was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Bagan; and a daughter, Jane Dodson Bagan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly Smail Bagan; a son, Dr. Wesley Riggs Bagan, his wife, Margaret, of Fort Madison, Iowa; three grandchildren, Betsy, David and Andrew Bagan of Fort Madison, Iowa. During WWII in the Army Air Corps, he flew two tours of duty including 28 missions as a B-17 ball turret gunner, with the 398th bomb group. He retired from the Army Reserve as a Major. After graduating from California University of Pennsylvania, he completed his master's degree at the University of Virginia. Mr. Bagan spent his career with the Richmond Public Schools as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal at both Chandler Junior High School and John Marshall High School, and as supervisor of driver's education. After retiring, he enjoyed his time volunteering, caring for his animals, gardening, travelling, making jewelry, and spending time with his family. He was a 55-year member of Metropolitan Lodge #11 AF&AM and a past member of the Richmond Host Lions Club. His remains rest at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday. Interment at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greater Richmond Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
