George W. Roadcap. Funeral services for Dr. George W. Roadcap, 7x years old, retired physician, who lived at 320 South Holmes avenue, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at Middletown. Dr. Roadcap had been in failing health several years, but death was caused by blood poisoning. He was born in Virginia In 1855, but had lived almost all his life in Indiana. He had made his home in Indianapolis for the last three years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Mayfield of Indianapolis and M[iss] Hassell Roadcap of Los Angeles, Cal.; a son, Fred T. Roadcap of Indianapolis; a brother, Dave Roadcap of Warsaw, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Conn of Middletown, Ind., Mrs. Susie Barrett of Richmond.

The following biographical sketch of George Rodecap is found in History of Henry County, Indiana: together with sketches of its cities, villages and towns, educational, religious, civil, military, and political history, portraits of prominent persons, and biographies of representative citizens: also a condensed history of Indiana, embodying accounts of pre-historic races, aborigines, Winnebago and Black Hawk wars, and a brief review of its civil and political history, Chicago: Inter-State Pub. Co., 1884, 944 pgs. p. 602:

"George W. Rodecap, a physician and surgeon, was born in Rockingham Co., Va., March 4, 1855, the 8th of 13 children on Martin and Susana [Sanger] Rodecap. In 1855 his parents moved to Delaware Co., Ind. and bought a farm of 320 acres on the line of Henry Co., where they still live. His father is also a minister in the German Baptist Church. George W. remained at home till fourteen years of age and then went West and traveled over several of the states and Territories. On his return home he entered the Middletown school. When about seventeen years old he began teaching school and taught two winters. He then went to Valparaiso, Ind. and graduated in 1875. He taught a country school the following winter, and in the spring of 1876 took charge of the grammar department of the Middletown school, retaining the position till 1880, when he was appointed Principal of the schools. In the mean time he devoted his spare time to the study of medicine, and in 1881 entered the medical department of Ann Arbor University. He took two courses of lectures and then returned to Middletown and began his practice. He was married in 1877 to Anna E., daughter of T. C. and Mary Swain. They have had three children: Ina, Cecil, and Nellie. The eldest two are deceased."
